Understand, Manage, & Measure CSR Programs:

Many CSR Professional do not know how to measure CSR Program. This is the reason many says, CSR Program measurement is difficult. But, this is one bad and unreasonable fear of many CSR Professional showing just skill gap and nothing else. Without "measuring index" any program is rudderless. The measuring scale what I call "Measuring Index" gives an understanding of clear company's overall CSR alignment, where to go and at what resource delivery. This is a must important tool in the CSR to monitor the program.  This has been thoroughly tested that the CSR Programs, which are measured continuously, by the CSR department gives twice the rate of achieving the growth targets.

Choosing and integrating "Measuring Index" ( MI )in the CSR Program, requires technical know-how that may be out of the  wheelhouse of general CSR Professional. Social Auditor, first looks the "Measuring Index" in the baseline. If Measuring Index is absent, this is completely poor sign of handling the CSR Project. I have seen many MNCs in India, where the CSR Programs are rudderless. This is just like rudderless ship in the Ocean, which doesn't know which direction to follow!

Using templates, for measuring CSR Programs is again a very bad idea and is not a good long-term solution. The truth is that this is devised and constructed. The  crucial point that is required to be kept in mind is  that, just introspect  what during the "Social Impact Assessment Audit" of the CSR Programs, the Social Auditor is going to measure the CSR Projects.

The "Measuring Index" (MI ) differ from business to business. However, there are strong baseline index which is tracked. This definitely use the modern application and tools. There are many measuring tools in use today. But I prefer and use  "Tracking Excel - Dashboard"

The Tracking Excel - Dashboard is a graphical board where base Index is filled in Excel with "Plan" and "Result".  The software captures data from the Excel made in the format "Plan" & "Result" and immediately throw "On-Screen" graphical line.  The "Plan" is often a yellow line followed with green line as "Result". I have found this metrics quite beneficial in measuring the projects, during  my HR Head tenure in the South Korean MNC. It gives clear path line what needs immediate attention. The only drawback is that you have to give dedicated time for some minutes on scheduled basis with your team. .

Remember Effective Measuring Index ( MI )  shall keep your measuring instrument on the pulse of your CSR Program and gives you an understanding, where you need to improve. Most Company MD feel, they can measure something without standard metrics. This is the biggest roadblocks to moving in right direction. Abandon and throw in the dustbin such ugly practices where you fail. Do not stick there. Analyze and improve. This is the biggest Mantra of this Measuring Index.
